Video of Gratitude from Capitol Hill Staff

Hello Kids and families! We miss you so much! The staff put together a video to show what we are thankful for during this time of uncertainty. Although many things are closed and we had to make a big change in our lives, there is so much to be happy for. Take a look and see!

April 20-24 Activities

TASC ACTIVITIES MENU for APRIL 20 - 24, 2020 
EARTH DAY – APRIL 22!

This menu below are some suggested activities that you can do this week at home. 
Some will be the same from week to week. Posts and photos welcomed! 

Students are expected to complete 5 hours per week of school work including working on IPP goals.
(Updated March IPP document pending admin approval to be shared with parents.)

    SUBJECT                                                                ACTIVITIES
LITERACY/ SPEECH
·       Read - at least one book to your child each day. TAKE YOUR TIME reading and looking at the pictures on each page. Remember that your child needs more time to process what is going on and needs more explicit teaching.  Post or send me a picture of your child looking at or reading books!

·       Syllable Clap – Clap the syllables in your name. (e.g. “Happy” has two syllables HA-PPY – clap twice). Can you find out how many syllables are in each of your friends’ names? How about your family members? Pets? Favorite foods? 

·       Writing Wizard App – available for free in the app store. Practice pointing finger skills and basic writing letters and shapes on the ipad/tablet.

·       Talker/visuals – use your talker, PODD book or visuals while doing the activities to promote speech and communication opportunities. Let me know if you would like any visuals. We can make them customized for you and email to you, ready to print!

MATH
·       Deck of Cards – look at the shapes and numbers on a deck of cards. Can you point to and count the number of shapes on each card?

·       Make your own calendar – get some poster paper and make your own calendar to follow along with me during circle time! You can also google “free printable calendar” to make your own small one.

·       Calendar count – count to 30 by ones (1, 2, 3…), twos (2, 4, 6…), fives (5, 10, 15…)

·       Ball Roll – sit on the floor with your legs spread open and try rolling the ball 20 times back and forth across the floor to your partner.

·       Practice walking or pushing wheelchair with minimal adult assistance

LIFE SKILLS
·       Help your family put dirty laundry INTO the washing machine. Say “IN” each time the child puts a piece of clothing in to reinforce the concept.

·       Carry your dishes to the sink after eating – see clean up routine video (see this week’s attachments) by my friend, neighbor and TASC Teacher Melissa Melville! (From Buffalo Rubbingstone School)

·       Practice getting your child to hang up their coat and do their zipper up (this is our Sprint whole classroom goal that we work on everyday). –continue this work this month

COOKING
·       Try cooking together! Send photos of you enjoying them or your child participating in helping with the steps (stirring, mixing, pouring, adding to the bowl etc.)

·       Label the foods you have in the house. Which are your favourites? Which need to go in the fridge? Help your family put the food away in the fridge or pantry.

April 13-17 Activities

OTHER SUBJECTS ACTIVITIES MENU
for APRIL 13 - 17, 2020      (*NO CIRCLE TIME MONDAY APR. 13*, Piper’s Birthday on Friday!)
This menu below are some suggested activities that you can do this week at home.

LITERACY/ SPEECH
·       Read - at least one book to your child each day. Post or send me a picture of your child looking at or reading books. I will show them during circle time!

·       Letters in my Name Placemat – See attached file in Google Classroom. Print and cut out the letters. Match it to the blank spaces below your name. Try your friend’s names too!

·       Puzzles – use simple insert wooden puzzles. You can borrow some from our classroom or get your own from Superstore or Walmart. Remove only one piece at a time and have your child practice matching just that one piece successfully. Remove more pieces as they build confidence and skill. Name the picture that is featured on each piece. Have your child repeat the word or point at it.

·       Talker/visuals – use your talker, PODD book or visuals while doing the activities to promote speech and communication opportunities. 

MATH
·       Number #3 Scavenger Hunt – look around your house and find things that come in THREES. Post or send me photos. I will make a collage to show during circle time.

·       Shape Sorting – find things that are round and square in your home. Gather them and sort them. Look at their attributes – round (no edges) vs. square (4 edges)

·       Calendar count – count the days that have passed. Point to the letters in the month APRIL and count how many letters there are.

·       Covid 19 - Changes in our Community – when you go to the grocery store see how many things you can spot that are DIFFERENT about grocery shopping with Covid Social distancing practices in place. Take photos and send them to me. I will make a collage to talk about during circle time.

·       Round Shapes Scavenger Hunt – walk or wheel around your neighborhood and look for things that are ROUND. Don’t forget to look for Easter Eggs!! Send me some photos!

·       Egg Race – using hard boiled or plastic eggs and a spoon, try to carry your egg further than your opponent without dropping the egg!!
